Balance and Babysitters

Starting a new job is hard, but having your grandmother die during your first week is even harder (more to come on that later?) I'm trying to learn how to balance all of the house chores with being a mom and now being a teacher two mornings a week. To make things more interesting our septic has gone on the fritz necessitating the use of only a small amount of water (no laundry, dishes) for two days, and my microwave broke. I had thought this week would be a great chance to finally get into routine but of course that didn't happen. Last night (I don't usually work on Wednesdays) I had to go to a staff meeting, meaning I had to find a babysitter, plan my day for the outing (nap times, eating times, etc) and then get it all together and make it to school on time. Tough. I did make it thankfully. Today I worked in the morning (normal) then I have meet the teacher night tonight, again having to coordinate who looks after the wee one. And then tomorrow ... all day I'm away for a Secial Ed conference, meaning we had to figure out what to do with the wee one again. So my part time two morning a week job turned into a 4 day a week job this week.

Last week I was asked if I would work 4 mornings a week since the other special ed teacher isn't returning. With this schedule I bet I"ld end up working 7 days a week if I had said yes.

I love my job but finding a balance is going to be hard.

  1. Sorry to hear about your grandma! Hugs! You'll find a balance (and enough babysitters too). What a blessing to have the gifts to be both a teacher and mom!
